The condition of Water Street within the Village of Prairie du Sac is very poor, stating it lightly.  Water Street, also known as Highways 60 and 78, is a state highway under the jurisdiction of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).  It is not the village’s call as to when the highway gets the reconstruction that it needs.  WisDOT makes that call and is responsible for funding the majority of the work.

The village has reached out to WisDOT, various governors, and other state elected officials during the last several years regarding the condition of this roadway.  A roadway, that according to WisDOT’s numbers, averages 8,000 vehicles per day.

WisDOT recently informed the village that it has begun planning for work on the roadway targeting construction for 2027.  The work would be from U.S. Hwy 12 in Sauk City to Eagle View Court in Prairie du Sac.  In the meantime, Sauk County and the Village of Prairie du Sac will continue with short-term repairs on the deteriorating roadway.
