The Village of Prairie du Sac continues to develop bike and pedestrian system routing as shown on the below map from the Comprehensive Plan. This includes working with the State of Wisconsin and Sauk County on the Rails-to-Trails conversion of the railroad line along the Wisconsin River to Devil's Lake. It also includes smaller path developments in new residential and commercial developments. The Prairie Street Path was completed in 2015, the 13th Street Path segments in 2015 and 2016, and the North Ridge Connector was completed in 2019. While trail passes are need for the Great Sauk State Trail, they are not needed for Village of Prairie du Sac paths.
Great Sauk State Trail (GSST)
The Rails-to-Trails project has converted 13 miles of railroad line along the Wisconsin River and through the downtown of the Village of Prairie du Sac and the Sauk Prairie Recreation Area via a partnership between Sauk County, local units of government (including the Village of Prairie du Sac) the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the Friends of the Great Sauk State Trail. Trail passes for the Great Sauk State Trail and other state trails can be purchased at the Village of Prairie du Sac Village Hall or by using the self-pay station located on the trail below the Water Street Municipal Parking Lot.
