Addition Meter Rental Charge (Outside Water Meter)

Upon request, the utility shall furnish and install additional meters to:

  1. Water service customers for the purpose of measuring the volume of water used that is not discharged into the sanitary sewer system; and
  2. Sewerage service customers who are not customers of the water utility for the purpose of determining the volume of sewage that is discharged into the sanitary sewer system.

The utility shall charge a meter installation charge of $40.00 and a monthly rental fee for the use of this additional meter.

Monthly Additional Meter Rental Charges:

  • 5/8    -inch meter - $ 5.00
  • 3/4    -inch meter - $ 5.00
  • 1       -inch meter - $ 7.50
  • 1 1/4 -inch meter - $10.50
  • 1 1/2 -inch meter - $12.50
  • 2       -inch meter - $19.00

This schedule applies only if the additional meter is installed on the same service lateral as the primary meter and either:

  1. The additional meter is 3/4-inch or smaller if the metering configuration is the Additional Method; or
  2. The additional meter is 2-inch or smaller for all other metering configurations.

If the additional meter is larger than 2-inch or larger than 3/4-inch and installed in the Additional Method, each meter shall be treated as a separate account and regular meter and water volume charges apply.

It is the customer's responsibility to pay for and hire a plumber to install the necessary plumbing for the additional meter.

Is an outside water meter right for you? A residential customer who requests an outside water meter for watering of their lawn using a 5/8-inch meter would need to consider the following. The rental charge for an outside 5/8-inch meter is $5.00 per month, which is $60.00 per year. Sewer charges are $2.84/1,000 gallons. As a residential customer, you would need to use approximately 19,592 gallons of water per year via the outside meter to recover the $60.00 yearly rental charge.  After recovering the rental fee, you would then save $2.45 for every 1,000 gallons used after the 19,592 gallons in uncharged sewer volume charges.
