Extraterritorial Zoning (ETZ) in Wisconsin is a form of municipal land use control that allows cities and villages to regulate development in unincorporated areas within a specified distance of their corporate limits and requires a cooperative agreement between the city/village and the adjoining town to establish and enforce the zoning rules. The purpose is to manage future growth and ensure development is compatible with the municipality's long-term plans. Per a 2014 Intermunicipal Cooperation Agreement between the Village of Prairie du Sac and the Town of Prairie du Sac, the Village of Prairie du Sac is the initial point of contact for zoning; land division; construction site erosion control and stormwater management; and building permits for properties within the Prairie du Sac ETZ.
The Official Zoning Map shows the Prairie du Sac ETZ area.
The Chapters 1, 3, 4, and 9 from Title 10 of the Village of Prairie du Sac Code of Ordinances apply in the Prairie du Sac ETZ.
